Tenure-track instructorship in logic, Vancouver (Canada)
The Department of Philosophy at The University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Logic at the rank of Instructor, in UBC's educational leadership stream. Start date: July 1, 2018. This is a full-time tenure-track appointment.
A PhD in Philosophy prior to taking up the position is required. Exceptional communication and teaching skills, a strong commitment to high-quality undergraduate education, a record or promise of educational leadership, a record or promise of excellence in teaching logic at the undergraduate level, and a research background appropriate for the development of upper-level logic courses are necessary qualifications for this position. Ability or experience in teaching high-enrolment online logic courses, and/or ability or experience relevant to participation in UBC's Cognitive Systems program, would be additional assets for this position. The successful applicant will be expected to teach a load of six one-semester courses annually and to maintain an active program of excellent teaching, service, and educational leadership. The range of courses includes critical thinking, scientific reasoning, symbolic logic, metatheory and computability, and additional advanced undergraduate courses in logic.
