Title: Modelling Democratic Deliberation
Date: Tuesday 27 May 2014
Time: 17:00-18:00
Location: Room , Science Park 107, Amsterdam

Abstract

Deliberative democracy is a political theory that places deliberation at the centre of political decision making. The essence of deliberative democracy is that it – unlike aggregative theories – takes preferences as dynamic rather than static. A deliberation is a process on the basis of mutual respect in which agents justify their preferences to one another.

The first part of this talk will introduce deliberative democracy and explore the essential aspects of democratic deliberation. In the second part, I will introduce a dynamic epistemic logic that is able to model all of the desired aspects, such as non logical omniscience and preference change due to new information or new perspectives.
