New PhD student at ILLC: Darrin Hindsill
Darrin Hindsill.(re-)joins the ILLC, as a PhD student working on 'Logic and Cognition'. Below you can find a small text he has written to introduce himself.
Hello, my name is Darrin Hindsill, and I've just begun my Ph.D. studies at the ILLC, although being a recent Master of Logic student, I am not entirely new here: only my role has changed. I am originally from Los Angeles, where I obtained a bachelors degree in philosophy some years ago. After a fairly long break from academia, I decided to change my life by both going back to university and moving to Amsterdam. Both decisions seem to have worked out quite well, and I am quite pleased to continue working in such a dynamic educational and research environment for the next few years. I have just started in the new research project 'Logic and Cognition', which, though not quite settled yet, promises to be an exciting new area of research. My current interests, in line with the scope of the research program include the relationship between cognition/conceptualization and language, working on formal models for language change (especially from a cognitive and discourse oriented viewpoint), and the mental representation of information structure and discourse information.
